From the highest-grossing Sairat to the acclaimed Poshter Boyz, here is the list of 6 iconic Marathi films that earned itself a remake in Bollywood.

Marathi cinema has often been praised for the quality of content that it offers. It has been blessed with some gems that have had a powerful impact on the industry. Marathi films have also evolved over the years and its impact can be seen spreading to Bollywood as well. B-Town has started to take notice and this is evident in the number of Marathi films being remade every year. Here is the list of six Marathi films on ZEE5 that earned themselves a remake in Bollywood.

Sairat was based on the love story of Archi and Parshya who tried to break free from the shackles of casteism prevalent in the society. The film is considered to be a turning point in the history of Marathi cinema. Directed by Nagraj Manjule, it broke many records at the box-office and became the highest-grossing Marathi film. Following its success, the film got an official remake in Hindi named Dhadak starring Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter.

2. Poshter Boyz

Another Marathi film that received critical acclaim is the comedy movie Poshter Boyz. The film revolves around the tale of three men who find themselves on the poster of vasectomy and are ridiculed by their fellow villagers. Considering the relevance, it was later remade into Bollywood by Shreyas Talpade with Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol in the lead roles. The Hindi version titled Poster Boys was also a commercial hit.

3. Mumbai Pune Mumbai

Mumbai Pune Mumbai is a romantic comedy starring the iconic pair Swwapnil Joshi and Mukta Barve that was based on a love story of two strangers belonging to different cities in Maharashtra. The girl who belongs to Mumbai is in search of a prospective groom but comes across a typical Puneri and is forced to spend a day with him. The sparkling chemistry of Swwapnil-Mukta became the most talked about point of the film. To continue the legacy, the director of this film Satish Rajwade decided to remake the film into Hindi under the title Mumbai Delhi Mumbai.

4. Maza Chakula

Maza Chakula is the story of a kid named Adi who separates from his family and gets lost in the crowded city of Mumbai. The film is about his journey to escape the clutches of goons who are after his life and reunite with his beloved mother. The director of the film Mahesh Kothare remade it in Bollywood and named it as Masoom, following a similar storyline.

5. Pheka Pheki

Released in the year 1989, Pheka Pheki is comedy-drama that revolves around misunderstandings and confusion in the lives of a couple Raju and Viju. The film turns out to be a laughter riot when Raju starts fabricating an imaginary story to avoid Viju’s suspicions. Ashok Saraf and Laxmikant Berde featured as the lead actors in this hilarious drama that was remade by Rohit Shetty later as Golmaal Returns, a part of his successful Golmaal franchise.

6. Ek Gadi Baaki Anadi

Last film that on the list is Ek Gadi Baaki Anadi starring Laxmikant Berde and Ashok Saraf yet again. Apart from these actors, Viju Khote, Priya Berde, Aruna Irani, and Mohan Joshi played other important roles in the film. The premise basically revolved around a car who magically drove itself to take revenge from its owner. The Hindi remake of the film was named Taarzan: The Wonder Car directed by Abbas-Mastan and was packed with action sequences that could possibly belittle the original.
